Inspired by Giving Tuesday, a global movement that seeks to unleash radical generosity, Smartsheet launched a Season of Giving. Each year, to kick off the philanthropic efforts at Smartsheet, we ask our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to nominate and vote for non-profit organizations that support the communities they represent. This year, we also held a raffle for gift boxes filled with curated items from small businesses with owners from diverse local communities in Seattle, found through the Intentionalist. Employees donated, volunteered, and amplified how they practice generosity to participate in the raffle.
We’re excited to announce the organizations that were selected to receive a monetary donation from Smartsheet.
API Chaya
The Asian/Pacific Islanders ERG selected API Chaya. API Chaya empowers survivors of gender-based violence and human trafficking to gain safety, connection, and wellness. The organization builds power by educating and mobilizing South Asian, Asian, Pacific Islander, and all immigrant communities to end exploitation, creating a world where all people can heal and thrive.
Byrd Barr Place
The Black at Smartsheet ERG selected Byrd Barr Place. Initially known as the Central Area Motivation Program (CAMP), Byrd Barr Place maintains its original purpose to this day: helping people move from poverty to self-sufficiency in Seattle and building the political strength and economic wealth of the Black community throughout Washington.
The organization plays a vital role in providing safety-net services — food, shelter, warmth, and financial tools — to Seattle residents in need. At the same time, it capitalizes on a deep knowledge of the community in its effort to effect systemic change.
Byrd Barr Place is guided by its vision of a strong and vibrant community, where all people have access to the basic human needs and opportunities that support their health, well-being, and prosperity — and that enable them to attain their full potential. In short, equity for all.
Hogar Siembra
The Hispanic/LatinX ERG has selected Hogar Siembra. Hogar Siembra is a private home for girls between the ages of 12 and 18 who have been rescued from child trafficking, abandonment, and abuse. The organization works with 36 girls to give them education, food, psychological therapy, and a home until they are 18 years old. About 90% of its population has been sexually abused.
As part of its program, Hogar Siembra has a cooking program, where girls make cookies, jam, and cakes for sale.
Stop Soldier Suicide
The Military at Smartsheet ERG has selected Stop Soldier Suicide. Stop Soldier Suicide is on a mission to reduce service member and veteran suicide by using enhanced data insights, focused client acquisition, and suicide-specific intervention services.
Founded and led by veterans, Stop Soldier Suicide is solely focused on the fight against military suicide. The organization’s vision is a nation where service members and veterans have no greater risk for suicide than any other American.
Cradles to Crayons
The Parents and Caregivers ERG has selected Cradles to Crayons. Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12 who are living in homeless or low-income situations with the essential items they need to thrive — at home, at school, and at play. The organization supplies these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities.
The Point Foundation
The Rainbow Collab ERG has selected the Point Foundation. The Point Foundation (Point) empowers promising lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential — despite the obstacles often put before them — to make a significant impact on society.
Through scholarship funding, mentorship, leadership development, and community service training, Point seeks to build community and springboard a new generation of LGBTQ leaders toward success. It is the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students of merit.
The organization’s work is vital because nearly one-third of LGBTQ students drop out of high school to escape the violence, harassment, and isolation they face there. As a result, many LGBTQ students say they are not planning to pursue opportunities for higher education.
National Women’s Law Center
The Women and Gender Minorities ERG has selected the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC). NLWC fights for gender justice — in the courts, in public policy, and in society — working across the issues that are central to the lives of women and girls. The center uses the law in all its forms to change culture, to drive solutions to the gender inequity that shapes society, and to break down the barriers that harm everyone — especially women of color, LGBTQ people, and low-income women and families. For 50 years, the National Women’s Law Center has been on the leading edge of every major legal and policy victory for women.
Palestine Children's Relief Fund
This year, in response to global events, Smartsheet has also selected Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF). PCRF was founded in 1991 by concerned humanitarians in the USA, provides free medical care to thousands of injured and ill children yearly who lack access to care within the local health care system. Over the years, the organization has sent over 2,000 affected children abroad for free medical care, sent thousands of international doctors and nurses to provide tens of thousands of children free medical care in local hospitals, and provided tens of thousands of children humanitarian aid and support they otherwise would not get.
PCRF's impact also includes establishing two pediatric cancer departments in Palestine, a new PICU and pediatric cardiology department in Ramallah, and many more critical projects to sustainably bolster the region's healthcare system. The foundation relies on grassroots efforts, supported by a worldwide network of thousands of volunteers, to fulfill its humanitarian mission.
American Friends of Soroka Medical Center
This year, in response to global events, Smartsheet has also selected American Friends of Soroka Medical Center. American Friends of Soroka Medical Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the outstanding medical care and breakthrough research at Soroka Medical Center, the leading medical center in Israel and the only major hospital in southern Israel, the country's fastest-growing and most diverse region.
Located in Be’er Sheva, Soroka Medical Center is one of Israel’s largest and most strategic institutions. The sole major medical center for the entire Negev region, Soroka serves over 1.2 million residents, including over 400,000 children, in an area that comprises 60% of Israel’s land. Home to Israel’s newest comprehensive Cancer Center, The Legacy Heritage Oncology Center & Dr. Larry Norton Institute, Soroka Medical Center represents peaceful coexistence in action, providing world-class healthcare for all.
